Make your own “umeboshi (pickled plums)! ~ Lesson on how to prepare plums~マイ梅干しを漬けよう!梅仕事教室2017


"Umeboshi (pickeled Japanese plums), usually eaten with rice, is considered to be a kind of Japanese soul food. Please come and join Savory Japan's cooking class where you will actually have the opportunity to make your own "umeboshi." There's nothing hard to it. Ripe plums, salt and red perilla leaves are all it takes. Ms. Yukiko Hayashi will demonstrate how to make exquisite "umeboshi." Please join us!

Venue: Tsukishima Shakai Kyouiku Kaikan, 4F Cooking class

Participation Fee: 8,000 yen per person (tax included)

* also includes fee for recipes, ingredients, container for the umeboshi, and a light meal)

  • Lesson content

Each participant will be making 1 kg of "umeboshi." Since it takes some time after salting the Japanese plums for the plum vinegar to come out and to add the red perilla leaves, the participants will take home the Japanese plums and the red perilla leaves that have been prepared in advanced, separately.

  • We will also be making a juice using red perilla leaves

  • Ms. Yukiko Hayashi will share with the class interesting facts about "umeboshi" while the participants eat a light meal.

*There may be a separate class learning how to prepare the red perilla leaves at Ms. Hayashi's cooking class. Details to be confirmed by the day of the event.
*Please choose the amount of "umeboshi" you would like to prepare by checking in the box for 1kg or 2 kg in the registration form. Please be kindly informed that the additional amount including additional salt and perilla leaves will be posted when con firmed.

Also known by the nickname “Gout Sensei,” Ms. Yukiko Hayashi produces many original dishes, using scientific analysis and precise techniques.

Even with traditional dishes, she comes up with magical ideas and techniques, bringing out the best of the ingredients. She attracts fans through her cheerful and friendly character, and not only has she been taken up by the media numerous of times, her cooking classes are very popular and are usually fully booked.
